A New Interest in Gardens?
Well, we used to have a garden when we lived out in the country so that we could spend less money on our fruits and vegetables, but it's been quite a few years since we've raised our own food. I wasn't really interested in the idea of a garden because I had never tended to a garden. I was the girl who cared for our livestock and horses, but never a garden. We've recently moved to the city and had to slaughter our livestock, sell most horses, and pick the rest of our harvest from the garden we had, but the city has made me feel gross because of the pollution and such. I have a horse still whom I'm boarding with a friend who owns a stable, but that's not close enough to make me feel more at home. I figure that starting a smaller garden in our back yard will make me feel more comfortable here in the city. That's going to start the questions. What plants can live in the weather that Michigan has? How should I start this garden? What tools are going to be needed? Any useful information for a new gardener will be appreciated if you'd like to add more information.
